Bardia National Park
One of the most diverse wildlife sanctuaries in Asia, Bardia National
Park is a wilderness of jungle and savannah and home to wild rhinos,
tigers and elephants as well as the rare gangnetic dolphin.
Pashupatinath
Nepal's holiest Hindu pilgrimage site, Pashupatinath, comes complete
with erotic carvings, ritual bathers and ascetic monks performing
gruesome penances. At a respectful distance are the funeral pyres of the
sacred Bhagmati River.
Trekking in the Everest Region
Climbing in the Everest region will take you from dense rhododendron
forests into the permafrost of the Himalayas, across gorges, glacial
lakes and Sherpa villages with staggering views of the highest mountains
in the world.
Durbar Square
Kathmandu's main handicrafts market comes alive each morning in Durbar
Square, with sleepy cows and red-robed monks padding softly amongst the
stalls. For a slice of local life, have breakfast at any of the nearby
cheap eateries.
Rafting on the Kali Gandaki
Shooting serious white water one moment, drifting serenely through the
jungle the next, a three-day rafting trip on the Kali Gandaki River will
satisfy the philosopher and the adrenaline junkie in you.
Bhaktapur
A flashback to medieval Nepal, the perfectly preserved city of Bhaktapur
with its mud-brick, carved wood and sculpted brass, is famous for its
royal palace and huge stone bells.
Mountain-Biking the Kodari Trail
A nightmare by bus, paradise by bicycle, a four-day round trip on the
Kodari trail takes in hot springs, remote roadhouses and glimpses of
Tibet.
Yoga and Meditation
Even a sceptic can't help but be drawn towards spiritual pursuits whilst
in Nepal. The Ananda Yoga Centre caters for most of them in a lovely
part of the Kathmandu valley.
Swayambhu
Monkeys and shaven-headed pilgrims overrun Swayambhu, the gigantic
hilltop stupa. It's the pole star of Nepali Buddhism and an eye opener
for the most jaded temple tourer.
Pokhara Lakeside
Pokhara Lakeside is a backpacker's dream: panoramic views of the
Annapurna range obscured by mountains of pizza and apple pie. The
ultimate place to kick back and relax.
